The main concept behind the Copenhagen chair is unity. Many chairs we interact with are dissected into sections that many times don’t relate or speak to each other. These segments such as the legs, the backrest, armrest, and seat are usually coexisting within a piece, but have different characters. Therefore, I thought of a chair which could unite all of the sections in a single language, where all parts complement each other with harmony.

The chair was meant to be inviting as well as personal. Hence, the main curve of the chair is open and united to the back, giving the impression as if two arms stretch out to receive you. This main curve travels from bottom to top and from left to right wrapping you in a protective atmosphere. The chair then steps forward with a sensual gesture to provoke you to sit in it. Though as a lounge chair, the chair can be placed almost anywhere in a house, and used in various ways due to its proportions.

The chair is made of Beach Veneer and a cross section of Oak wood. Using the best of the veneer technique the chair is made in two sections, which unite to give strength and support to each other at the chair’s legs. Built by molding the veneer into two metal cheat molds using a vacuum forming machine.
